Standing arrangements

The same time,
every week

Why there are so few

One man.
One week.

A standing slot is a time that is yours. It is held, and it stays held, which is the whole of what makes it worth having, and the whole of why there cannot be many.

Standing slots

Three patterns

These are not packages somebody designed. They are the three rhythms already visible in what clients wrote about themselves, named after the way they described them.

Race Ready

A block, leading up to a date.

It starts when the training does and it ends when the race does. People training towards something tend to come every week or two through the build-up, and the week of the event is the one everybody wants.

I've been seeing Jonathan for a couple of weeks in the build up to a massive event. He is definitely an expert in his field and has worked out some of the restrictions due to muscle tightness and has definitely got me race ready.

The whole arc, week by week

In Season

Weekly, through a season, then it stops.

A season puts the same load through the same tissue every week, and the people who play one tend to come at the same rhythm it does. It is the pattern with the longest run of anybody here.

I play lots of rugby at an high level and often see him once a week and he never fails to do the job.

Year Round

Monthly or fortnightly, with no end date.

Nothing is wrong, and the point is to keep it that way. This is the pattern that does not have a season or a date in it: the standing Tuesday that has been the same Tuesday for two years.

I got to Jonathan around once a week and he’s a really nice guy. Sorta out all my problems and gives me advice on what I need to do to help my body.

If one of the three is recognisably yours, say which. There is no sign-up and no form, and there are only so many of these to go round.

Ask about that one
How you get one

You ask, and you wait.

There is no sign-up. A standing slot exists when a time is free and it suits both of you, so it starts as a conversation, usually at the end of a session, or on the complimentary intro call if you have not been before.

  1. Come in once. Nobody takes a standing time with somebody they have not worked with, in either direction.
  2. Say what your week actually looks like. The pattern that holds is the one that fits the week you really have, not the one you would like to have.
  3. Take the time when it comes free. Standing slots move when somebody's season ends or their race passes, so the answer is sometimes not this month, and Jonathan will say so.

Not sure which of the three is yours, or whether there is room.
